Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant

Did you know that you can get up to €50,000 in government grants if you purchase or own a vacant property?

Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant - Mannix Property

With the growing pressure on Ireland’s housing market, the many empty and derelict houses and
apartments are far more than just an eyesore to a community’s residents and visitors.

The need for all types and levels of accommodation in every county has never been more urgent. To help alleviate
the housing situation, and improve the appearance and safety of our local communities, the
Government has introduced the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant.

Owners of vacant properties can get up to €30,000 to renovate, which includes VAT, and an
additional €20,000 if the property is derelict.

There are conditions to avail of these grants, the main ones being:

  • You must own the property or be in the process of buying it,
  • It must have been vacant for at least 2 years and have been built before 1993,
  • You must live in the property as your home – making it your principal private residence –
once the refurbishment work is complete.

The grant covers the refurbishment of a large number of structural elements, such as the
foundations, rising walls, structural timbers, internal walls, stairs, roofs, plumbing, heating and even
painting and decorating.
